Book Review ~ I Am Your Friend By Billie Bacal

I was gifted a new book to review a month or so ago and I really wanted to give it a try.

I Am your Friend by Billie Bacal is aimed at helping your mindfulness during those moments you feel low, down or even depressed.

I've suffered with low mood and depression most of my life, since I was a teenager. I've found it really difficult to find coping mechanisms that help, instead reaching out for some junk food or curling up in the fetal position on my bed. Whilst there's nothing wrong with these things in a moment of self care they are self destructive if done long term, something all those with mental health issues will agree with.

Finding things that help can be difficult. When I heard about I Am Your Friend I wasn't entirely sure it would help much.  "I can't read when I'm not in a good place," I said to myself. When I read the rest of the notes I realised the book is more of a picture book of feel good doodles and artwork, very little reading and effort required.

You open up any page and you are greeted by a simple, colourful drawing with inspiring words. You can flick through the whole book, pick random pages to read or even read a page that you feel speaks to you most.

My 11 year old daughter has even borrowed the book several times when she has found herself having anxious thoughts.

What's really special about I Am Your Friend is Billie knows exactly what it is like to be in a dark place and she found a way to help herself.  Now she is giving back and hoping her books will inspire others to feel better about themselves. There a 2 versions of I Am Your Friend, a full sized copy and the one I received, a handy pocket size book to carry with you out and about.

A Note from the Author:

"During the most difficult period of my life and having hit rock bottom I found solace in drawing and filling up sketch books. Slowly but surely the collection of images grew. I started to get on a roll creatively and I AM YOUR FRIEND is the result of that process. My intention is that my book can help others as well."
